Together We Have Hope Project
Five months of tireless effort, sudden inspiration, and driven mindsets took us to unimaginable places.
The BeginningIn this extensive five-month project my classmates and I had the opportunity to unite and fight for a cause worth millions of lives. We could have chosen any other social movement but mental health and suicide seemed worth every effort, and how right we were!
Once we had chosen our topic, class leaders were elected to help guide the project. The positions were CEO, CFO, CBO, and CDO, and it was their responsibility to oversee a branch of the project structure. I was elected by my the class for Chief Branding Officer, it was my obligation to manage all external communications and I oversaw a branch of students who dealt with branding our project. |
What We've Done |
Honestly, I never expected our project to go in the direction that it did. We started out slow and vaguely uninspired to do our best work, but once the ball got rolling everyone jumped on board and we really got lot accomplished. Our initial plan was to partner with an organization and go present at other high schools to spread awareness, and we did exactly that. We scored a valued partnership with the National Alliance of Mental Health (NAMI) and went on to present at High Tech High Point Loma. Then our project took an unexpected turn. We were invited to speak at the Suicide Prevention Council of San Diego! Although it was absolutely nerve-wracking, myself and two other classmates presented in front of the council and scored several interested sponsors from major organizations. To close it all off, we ended with a bang by putting on a Social Change Gala and NAMI NC even set up an informational table!

The Future |
Unfortunately, our school year had to come to an end, and our project has to end with it. But it feels wrong to cut all of our hard work off so abruptly so we have decided to continue on the essence of our project. In fall 2016 we are going to implement a program called "Hope Ambassadors". We hope for this program to spread across to schools across the county.
